The cheese farm of the Captein family is situated on the border of the Groene Hart in the Grote Polder of Zoeterwoude, in rural Weipoort. For generations, artisan cheese has been made on this beautiful family farm, according to old traditions using traditional methods. Due to our unique preparation, our farm cheese has its own taste and character.
Our family has been running the farm in the Weipoort for generations. When you drive through the Weipoort in summer, you will see our cows grazing and ruminating happily in the green meadows around the farm in the Grote Polder of Zoeterwoude.
About 170 cows, mainly red Holsteiners, graze around the farm. Though they produce less milk than black Holsteiners, the milk is richer in protein and fat. Every animal is unique to farmer Frank Captein. Frank passionately talks about the names and family history of each cow.
n spring, volunteers from nature organizations look for the nests of meadow birds. Franks mows around them, allowing the birds to hatch their eggs in peace.
